Solar photovoltaic lantern

Photovoltaic systems are now widely in use for household and office applications. Solar photovoltaic lantern is a device which is used for lighting during darkness. Emergence of this device replaced kerosene based lanterns and even electrical emergency lamps. The main components of this device are a small solar photovoltaic panel, a rechargeable battery, a charge controller and a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). Charge controller protects the battery from over charging and over discharging. Maintenance free, sealed batteries are preferred in solar photovoltaic lanterns. Since the battery life is smaller compared to solar panels, replacement of battery 3 0r 4 times is a must here. A solar photovoltaic panel can be used for about 6 hours. The average cost of a good quality solar photovoltaic lantern is around 3000 INR.
