Cutting process

Cutting process is an important task for any engineer. Metal cutting is more important for a mechanical engineer and a civil engineer. Any process related to metal (metal cutting, metal welding, metal drilling, metal removal) are expensive and required skilled man power. For this we can use many machines like lathes (turning machines), boring machines, grinding machines, milling machines, planning machines, gear cutting machines, drilling machines, sawing machines, machining machines and shaping machines. Metal cutting is a complex process. First step is to form the chip, the deformed metal which flows over the tool face. Chip can be formed in three types- continuous chip, discontinuous chip and continuous chip with BUE. High cutting speed results in continuous chip. Brittle materials form discontinuous chip. Built Up Edge (BUE) is formed when large sized materials piles up on the rake face. This happens in ductile materials when the friction between tool and chip is high.
