Evaporation is the vapourisation of the water from the surface of the earth. This occurs mainly due to extensive solar radiation. Factors which influence evaporation are solar radiation, transport characteristics of earth's surfaces, wind velocity and humidity. Evaporation occurs directly from the soil and vegetation surface. Another possibility is by transpiration through plant leaves. In a plant, water is extracted by the plant's roots, transported this water upwards very finely through its stem and later diffused into the atmosphere through the stomata of leaves. This process of evaporation from earth's surface and vegetation transpiration together got a name in environmental science as evapotranspiration. Evapotranspiration is influenced by vapour transport, energy supply and surface moisture.
